Seven steps to learn Transcendental Meditation
The Transcendental Meditation technique is taught through an initial seven-step course of instruction followed by an optional but highly recommended follow-up programme to ensure maximum benefits from the practice.
Step 1:
Introductory Lecture – A vision of possibilities through the Transcendental Meditation programme—enhancing mental potential, health and social relationships, and promoting world peace. (1 hour)
Step 2:
Preparatory Lecture – The mechanics of the TM technique—how it works, why it is easy to learn and effortless to practise, how it is different from other forms of meditation, and the origins of the technique. (30 minutes)
Step 3:
Personal Interview – A brief private meeting with a qualified teacher of Transcendental Meditation, following the Preparatory Lecture. (10 minutes)
Four days of instruction—held on four consecutive days
Step 4:
Personal Instruction – Individual instruction in Transcendental Meditation with a qualified teacher. (1–2 hours)
Step 5:
First day following instruction (group meeting) – Verifying correctness of the practice, and practical instructions for daily meditation. (1– 2 hours)
Step 6:
Second day following instruction (group meeting) – Understanding what happens during Transcendental Meditation, and its effects on mind and body. (1–2 hours)
Step 7:
Third day following instruction (group meeting) – Understanding how through TM life progresses towards higher levels of achievement and fulfilment, higher states of consciousness. (1.5 –2 hours)
